Whole Mhondoro Village Tested For Coronavirus After 3 Villagers Found Positive

A whole village in Mhondoro, Mashonaland West, is being tested for coronavirus following the death of an 82-year-old grandmother on April 21. Health officials are still mystified how the elderly woman, the mother of former minister Sylvester Nguni, contracted the virus while living in a remote village with a maid and herdboy. Nguni on Sunday rejected news reports suggesting that his mother had recently travelled to the United Kingdom, or that she was in contact with a nephew who returned from the UK. While he has an uncle named Christopher Chitemere who lived in the same village as his mother, Nguni said this was not the same man reported to have recently returned from the UK before refusing to go for a mandatory 21-day quarantine. All three cases are stable and not in hospital. More details on those cases to follow,” the ministry said in a statement. Zimbabwe To Roll Back Prices Of Staple Food & Essentials To Curb Coronavirus

Zimbabwe’s government agreed with bakers, millers and other businesses on Wednesday to cut the prices of basic goods, including bread and sugar, to levels before the country entered a coronavirus lockdown last month amid soaring inflation. Annual inflation in the southern African nation has hit 676.39%, one of the highest rates in the world, as a currency that was re-introduced last year weakens amid acute shortages of foreign currency, food and medicines. Vice President Kembo Mohadi said the government had agreed with bakers, grain millers and edible oil and sugar producers, among others, that price increases seen in the last month were speculative and unjustified. “The multi-sectoral stakeholders committed to a price moratorium to operate based on the prices which we
