THE opposition MDC has hired independent auditors after $2 million allegedly vanished from its accounts last year, officials said yesterday. MDC treasurer-general David Coltart confirmed to NewsDay that a team of independent auditors would start work this week after unconfirmed reports that the money had been abused by unnamed top officials and individuals. He could, however, not be drawn into confirming or denying the theft reports. “We are starting an audit today because the party, at my request, has agreed to have an audit. POLICE barred MDC from launching its clean-up campaign in Unit L, Chitungwiza Friday ordering the main opposition party to instead join President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s national clean-up done every first Friday of each month. MDC President Nelson Chamisa was expected to launch the ‘Smart Cities Clean-up Campaign’ in Chitungwiza. However, in a letter dated 30 January, 2020 and addressed to MDC secretary for Harare Province Maxwell Mavhunga and signed by Officer Commanding Police Chitungwiza District Chief Superintendent S. VICE President Constantino Chiwenga has raised a complaint against Judge President George Chiweshe after the judgement in a child custody case was allegedly leaked to his estranged wife, Marry Mubaiwa, before being officially handed down in court. Justice Chiweshe is the head of the High Court in Zimbabwe. VP Chiwenga, through his lawyers — Manase & Manase Legal Practitioners — has written to Justice Chiweshe seeking an explanation as to why the judgement in the child custody case was leaked to Mubaiwa and a local newspaper, well before it was handed down in court. Last Friday, the newspaper had banners all over the streets announcing Mubaiwa’s victory in the child custody case, but the court only officially handed down judgement after 1030am the same day.

Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga appealed on Friday against a High Court ruling, which granted his estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa access to the couple’s three minor children and their lavish matrimonial home situated on a hill in Harare’s upmarket Borrowdale Brooke. Marry approached the courts after soldiers were allegedly deployed to bar her from accessing their family home.
