Another School Teacher Dragged To Court After Assaulting A Student Nemugoti

Another school teacher was recently dragged to court after she reportedly assaulted a six-year-old student using a cooking stick.

Virginia Nevanji, 48, a Primary School teacher from Courtney Selous appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti to answer to ill-treatment of children charges.
It is in the States case that on October 13, at around 10 am, the student was in a Shona lesson but did not realize that his teacher, Nevanji had moved to the English lesson of the day so he continued writing his Shona exercise.

It is alleged that Nevanji saw the student writing Shona and went to his desk and started assaulting him with a cooking stick several times on his back.

The court heard that the matter only came to light the next morning when the minor’s mother was bathing him and she saw some bruises on his back.

The complainant’s mother inquired what had happened and he revealed what had transpired while he was at school.

A police report was made leading to Nevanji’s arrest. Nevanji was released on free bail and ordered to return to court on November 25.
Magistrate also ordered her not to interfere with State witnesses.

This comes barely a couple of days after another private school teacher from Harare Einstein Tuition Centre made headlines when a video of him brutally assaulting a Lower Six student went viral.

Talent Chingwaru, 29, pleaded guilty to assault charges after appearing before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

He was ordered to perform 630 hours of community service at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

Police on Friday confirmed that Chingwaru, 39, had been arrested and charged with assault.

According to police, the unnamed Lower Sixth student was earlier found by Chingwaru in a Form 4 class watching movies after bunking lessons.

Chingwaru, police said, ordered the student to return to his class.

“Instead of returning to his class, he went to a Biology classroom and coincidentally met the same teacher and a harsh exchange of words occurred, resulting in the teacher assaulting the complainant,” police said.

Corporal punishment has been outlawed in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, another video has emerged of the same teacher assaulted a ZESA technician. It is not known when the incident occurred, and if a police report was filed.
