AN Air Force of Zimbabwe helicopter was dispatched to Muzarabani, over 250km away, late Friday to ferry the injured aides to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa who were victims of an accident in which one of the top aides died.
One of the aides is in ICU at a local private hospital, while a female is awaiting CT scan to the head at the same hospital, and the third aide, a male, is awaiting x-ray.
The fourth one was discharged, according to sources.
First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa was travelling to the remote parts of Mashonaland Central province to hand out food parcels and other goods to vulnerable members of society when a Toyota Hilux driving with her close security aides behind her vehicle went off the road at the Mavhuradonha Mountain Range on the Centenary-Muzarabani Road, security sources told Zimbabwe Voice.
The Toyota truck then rolled down a steep, rocky embankment before coming to a stop against a tree, killing a top aide (name withheld) on the spot.
“One vehicle with security personnel was involved in a nasty road accident. Four of the security details are seriously injured, and one unfortunately died,” said the source.
“The deceased (name withheld) was the First Lady’s top and highly regarded security aide.” The Air Force responded and ferried the injured back to Harare for treatment, while the First Lady proceeded with her programme
