A twenty year old gospel artiste was found on Thursday hanging from a mango tree at a neighbor’s house in Whitecliffe, Harare. Universe Mugwinya went missing on Monday only to be found dead hanging from a tree two houses away from her parents’ house.
Her Mother Mrs Mugwinya report that Universe vanished from the house following a misunderstanding over the sale of timber without her knowledge.
“We had a misunderstanding over her decision to sell timber, which was in the garage without my knowledge and consent. I was told by my neighbor that Universe had sold the timber to her ex-husband who owns a hardware shop. When she got paid she used the money to pay for her rentals within the neighborhood.”
“I confronted the land lord over the money paid after she went missing and they did not give me the money. One of the vendors later told me that Universe bought a rope threatening to hang herself. I was shocked to find her hanging in a tree in a kneeling position. At first I thought she was praying and I hugged her body and got the shock of my life. Universe has left a young child who is sixteen months old,” Mrs Mugwinya said.

One of Universe Mugwinya’s dancer Ngoni Masaiti reports to HMetro saying that Universe had a bright future in the gospel music industry. He also adds that Universe was so passionate about her music.
Universe Mugwinya recorded an album of seven tracks called Njere Dzemweya. All the seven songs have videos recorded in 2020. However, due to economic hardships Universe had turned to fish vending.
Sources close to the Mugwinya family say that Universe was assaulted by her mother for selling timber. Other people add that Mrs Mugwinya was against the idea of Universe reuniting with her ex-husband.
