In an unexpected turn of events, MDC-T’s elected president, Douglas Mwonzora has officially appointed his nemesis Dr. Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri as his party vice presidents’.
Former interim leader Thokozani Khupe is now officially the party’s first vice president, while former Harare mayor Elias Mudzuri was appointed to the second vice president seat.
Their appointments as vice presidents come after the opposition MDC-T amended its constitution to create the position of second vice president of the party.
The development was announced by the party’s spokesperson Witness Dube in a statement on Twitter following meetings of the National Executive and National Council which were held virtually this Saturday.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Chairperson of Bulawayo Province Dorcas Sibanda and former organizing secretary Abednico Bhebhe – who was fired from the party after he emerged as the candidate to win the presidency ahead of the extraordinary congress held last year – were both readmitted to the party.
The National Council considered and resolved to re-admit everyone who has expressed the desire to re-join the party.
Notably, former National Organising Secretary Abednego Bhebhe and former Deputy Chairperson of Bulawayo Province Dorcas Sibanda were duly readmitted into the party as per their expression of interest,” reads part of the statement.
