President Mnangagwa Extends Lockdown By 14 Days

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has as of today extended the country’s level 4 lockdown by a further two weeks.

The country’s Covid-19 cases have dropped significantly from an unprecedented peak that saw more than 1000 people succumbing to the deadly virus in January alone.

Speaking at Statehouse this evening President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the Following:

  • Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses of The Sinopharm Vaccine from The People’s Republic of China
  • More vaccines were procured from India, The UK and Russia. The second batch of vaccines will be coming in a few weeks time.
  • Vaccine roll out will be announced by The Minister of Health and Child Care in due course
  • Hours of Business have been increased to 1700hrs from the previous 1500hrs.
  • The curfew will now start at 2000hrs and end at 0530hrs.
  • Government departments to operate with 25% functionality from the previous 10%.
  • Schools will remain closed for the duration of the lockdown extension.
  • Funeral gatherings will remain limited to 30 people whilst all other social gatherings remain banned.
  • Private companies seeking resumption of work will test all employees first.
  • Essential services have not been affected as they will continue to function normally as before.
  • Markets shall remain open, whilst observing Social Distancing.
  • The judiciary will open for urgent cases only with the gallery closed to spectators.
  • Informal markets to open on condition that they satisfy WHO guidelines.
  • Intercity and interprovincial travel remain banned.
