Statement Mayor, Councillor Rosaria Mangoma, on the Tragic Road Accident Chitungwiza

Statement Mayor, Councillor Rosaria Mangoma, on the Tragic Road Accident at Hunyani Bridge Along Seke Road

It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that I address the residents of Chitungwiza and the nation at large following this morning’s horrific accident along Seke Road at Hunyani Bridge.

Seventeen reportedly died in a devastating collision involving a 30-tonne haulage truck and a commuter omnibus. The scale of the tragedy is heartbreaking.

When I visited the scene with the Acting Town Clerk Mr Japson Nemuseso and some councillors, I was met with an image too painful to describe as emergency services worked tirelessly to retrieve the deceased and assist the injured. It was one of the most disturbing and traumatic scenes our community has witnessed in recent memory. What I witnessed was truly heart-breaking.

In this regard, I am formally appealing to the Government of Zimbabwe to declare this accident a national disaster. Doing so will unlock vital resources towards assisting the bereaved in mourning their loved ones. We appeal for national support.

In a short space of time, our community has endured the trauma of four serious road traffic accidents along Seke Road —each one claiming precious lives.

As we mourn the lives lost, I urge all motorists to exercise extreme caution on our roads. No journey is worth a life.

On behalf of the Municipality of Chitungwiza, my family, and in my personal capacity, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this unimaginable time of grief.

May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.

Councillor Rosaria Mangoma

Mayor of ChitungwizaDear Councillor/Mayor. As a son of the soil, and Chitungwiza to be precise, I would like to share my view. You have rightly urged motorists to exercise caution on the road but I feel that is not enough and

faraway from preventing future tragedies. The government or responsible minister should come up with preventative measures. Speed cameras, traffic patrol officers, road maintenance, awareness signages etc

Car Accident Claims: What Drivers Should Know After a Collision

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of injury and financial stress worldwide. Whether involving minor property damage or serious injuries, accidents often create complicated insurance and legal challenges for drivers and passengers. Understanding what steps to take after a collision can help protect legal rights and support financial recovery.

After an accident, safety should always be the first priority. Drivers should seek medical attention immediately, report the incident to law enforcement, and document the scene carefully with photographs and witness information. Medical records and accident reports often become critical evidence during insurance claims and legal proceedings.

Insurance companies typically investigate accident claims to determine liability and compensation eligibility. However, insurers may attempt to minimize payouts or dispute fault. Experienced car accident attorneys can help victims negotiate settlements and pursue fair compensation for medical bills, lost wages, vehicle repairs, and emotional distress.

Distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, and poor weather conditions continue contributing to rising accident rates globally. Experts encourage drivers to maintain safe driving habits, avoid smartphone distractions, and follow traffic regulations carefully to reduce collision risks.

With vehicle technology evolving rapidly, many modern cars now include advanced safety systems such as collision warnings, lane assistance, and automatic emergency braking. While these innovations improve road safety, responsible driving behavior remains the most effective way to prevent accidents and injuries.

Best Life Insurance Companies For Families

Life insurance is one of the most important financial tools for protecting your family. If something happens to you, life insurance can help your loved ones pay the mortgage, cover bills, replace income, pay for childcare, handle funeral costs, and protect long-term financial goals.

The best life insurance policy depends on your age, health, income, debt, family size, and budget. Most families choose between term life insurance and permanent life insurance.

Term life insurance provides coverage for a set period, such as 10, 20, or 30 years. It is often more affordable and works well for families who need protection while raising children or paying off a mortgage.

Whole life insurance and other permanent policies can last for life and may build cash value. These policies usually cost more, but they may be useful for estate planning or long-term financial strategies.

When comparing life insurance companies, look at financial strength, policy options, customer service, claim history, pricing, and flexibility. A cheap policy is not helpful if the company is difficult to work with or does not offer the coverage your family needs.

Many families ask how much life insurance they need. A common approach is to consider income replacement, debts, mortgage balance, college costs, funeral costs, and future household expenses. Some people choose coverage equal to 10 to 15 times their annual income, but every family is different.

Your health can affect your premium. Smoking, medical history, age, weight, and lifestyle may influence the cost. Buying coverage while you are younger and healthier can often save money.

Life insurance is not only for the main income earner. Stay-at-home parents may also need coverage because childcare, transportation, cooking, and household management have real financial value.

The right life insurance policy gives your family protection and peace of mind. It is better to compare options early than wait until coverage becomes more expensive or harder to qualify for.
