Zimbabwe Coronavirus Cases Rise Up To 31

Zimbabwe reported three new coronavirus cases on Saturday, two of them local transmissions.

The ministry of health said all three positive tests were registered at the laboratory in Harare, taking the national total to 31 cases.

“Two of the three cases confirmed today were local transmissions. All three cases are stable and not in hospital. More details on those cases to follow,” the ministry said in a statement.

Most of the 31 cases have been recorded from individuals with a recent travel history to high risk countries, but authorities have always feared local transmissions which influenced a government decision in late March to impose a national lockdown and restrict the movement of people inside the country.

Only two people have recovered from the respiratory illness, while four have died.

As at 9AM on Sunday, 203,308 people had died from 2,923,336 infections in over 200 countries. Of that number, 837,531 had recovered.
