A total of 197 health workers at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo have been placed in self-quarantine after three patients and a nurse tested positive recently for Covid-19 at the hospital. Two of the patients were positive after they had been admitted at the hospital, while the third person was an outpatient. It is suspected that the nurse contracted Covid-19 due to interactions with one of the patients who had come to the referral hospital. After the confirmed cases at Mpilo Central Hospital, Bulawayo’s rapid response team was contacted to contain the potential spread of the virus. Through contact tracing, the team identified 197 health workers who were at high risk of contracting the disease, placing them on 14-day mandatory self-quarantine, while under surveillance.
MDC Alliance vice presidents Tendai Biti and Lynnette Karenyi-Kore and several other party leaders have been arrested for trying to gain access into the party headquarters. Also arrested are party deputy secretary general David Chimhini, national standing committee member Lovemore Chinoputsa and secretary for international relations Gladys Hlatywayo. The arrest came minutes after the party youth had tried to get into Harvest House hours after a midnight “takeover” by the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T, with the aid of the army and police. Biti and his team arrived saying they wanted to access their offices as they were the rightful owners of the party headquarters, but the police officers on the ground refused to attend to them, directing them to their superiors at the Har

MDC-T secretary-general Mr Douglas Mwonzora yesterday claimed to have taken charge of the opposition party’s affairs and locked up the party’s headquarters, Morgan Richard Tsvangirai (MRT) House. This followed a Supreme Court ruling that declared Dr Thokozani Khupe the legitimate leader of the opposition and that the party should go back to its 2014 structures before calling for a congress in 90 days. Mr Mwonzora, who reverted to being MDC-T secretary-general, said he would reopen the offices after the 21-day lockdown. “I am the secretary-general and I am in charge of the day-to-day running of the party. I have closed the party offices up until the end of the 21-day lockdown. We have to follow the law,” said Mr Mwonzora. Responding to alleged threats fro
Compared to Emmerson Mnangagwa, Former President Robert Mugabe was at kindergarten level in terms of dictatorship, MDC Alliance leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has said. According to Advocate Chamisa, Mnangagwa has taken dictatorship to a shocking level. Speaking to reporters in Harare on Wednesday, Advocate Chamisa said: "It's a banana republic as you can see by the conduct of Mr Mnangagwa. We never thought that Mnangagwa will be worse than Mugabe but instead he has proved Mugabe to be a toddler in dictatorship. Mugabe was actually the banana in pyjamas, at cartoon level. He has actually taken dictatorship to another level. We will have have to make sure that Mnangagwa is shown the way that is shown to all dictators. They have to exit the people's spaces and
The main opposition MDC Alliance National Council (NC) has resolved to preserve the existence of its name, constitution, slogans and assets despite a High Court ruling last Friday that it was not a ‘juristic person” and so could not sue or be sued. In a statement seen by Nehanda Radio, recently appointment MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the opposition party was a duly constituted political party. She added that the MDC Alliance was going to remain and using the same name and preserve its assets. “The MDC Alliance will preserve the existence of the name, constitution, slogans and assets of the MDC Alliance. “We restate that the MDC Alliance is a duly constituted political party and a legal persona in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral

MDC Alliance MPs who have been boycotting Parliament yesterday started trickling back to the House and were heckled by their Zanu PF counterparts, who jeered and labelled them MDC-T instead of MDC Alliance. Fifteen opposition MPs, mostly proportional representation legislators, turned up and the most senior was Hatfield MP Tapiwa Mashakada, who later told journalists that they had not defected and were still MDC Alliance MPs as they were elected by the people. But the party immediately shot down his claims, with secretary for presidential affairs Jameson Timba saying only the national council, which sits today, would make a resolution on whether to attend Parliament business or not. “We met as MDC Alliance and made a resolution that we were elected by the people and, therefore, mus
Dear Thokozani Khupenga, I hope this communique/ missive finds you in your right state of mind.I should admit that your hallucinations have unprecedentedly reached diabolical proportions. At a minimum it’s sheer hallucinations, and a minimum you require psychiatric evaluation. Firstly, you are a political prostitute, you sold your integrity for silver and gold . Mendaciously and with cupidity , you opted to urinate on the people’s project by forming an unholy alliance with Mr Lipstick . You took an oath with the devil to be used as a conduit pipe to urinate on the people’s project. On a silver platter, the devil handsomely rewarded you with the keys to Harvest House for your betrayal . In a twinkling of an eye the 2.4 millions who overwhelmingly endorsed Cha
