It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Sergeant

Notification of Death

Dear Members,

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Sergeant Stephen Mpofu, who died at Mpilo Hospital, Bulawayo, at midday yesterday after a brave struggle against cancer.

Stephen was one of only ten Selous Scouts to receive Rhodesia’s second highest bravery award, the Silver Cross of Rhodesia, a testament to exceptional courage displayed in the most demanding and dangerous circumstances. As a member of the Selous Scouts, he served in a unit renowned for its intelligence work, counterinsurgency operations, and deep penetration missions, often behind enemy lines. His service stands as a reminder of the vital role played by indigenous African soldiers during the conflict, and of Stephen’s own conviction that he was defending his homeland against insurgent forces he believed were intent on seizing power rather than delivering freedom.

We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Irene, and to his family, friends, comrades, and colleagues. A further notice will be circulated to all members shortly.

May he rest in peace.

Vadzimu vedu, tinokukwazisai.

Nhasi tinokuunzira mwana wenyu, Stephen Mpofu, apedza rwendo rwepanyika.

Mugamuchirei zvakanaka, mumuchengete, uye mumubvise munzira dzekufamba-famba dzemweya.

Tinotenda.

Lest we forget.

E-Commerce Growth Continues Transforming Global Retail Markets

E-commerce has completely changed the way consumers shop and businesses operate worldwide. Online marketplaces, mobile shopping apps, and social media platforms have made it easier than ever for businesses to reach customers across different countries and regions. Consumers increasingly prefer online shopping because of convenience, competitive pricing, and fast delivery services.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs are benefiting significantly from digital commerce opportunities. Sellers can now launch online stores with minimal startup costs while reaching international audiences through social media marketing and search engine optimization strategies. Platforms such as Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, and Facebook Marketplace continue driving global online sales growth.

Digital payment systems and mobile banking technology have also contributed to the expansion of e-commerce. Consumers can securely complete transactions using smartphones, digital wallets, and online banking apps. Businesses are investing heavily in secure payment systems and customer data protection to maintain consumer trust.

Logistics and delivery infrastructure remain essential for successful e-commerce operations. Fast shipping, efficient inventory management, and strong customer support help businesses remain competitive in crowded online markets. Many companies are also using artificial intelligence to personalize shopping experiences and improve customer recommendations.

Experts predict e-commerce will continue expanding rapidly as internet access improves and mobile technology adoption increases globally. Businesses that prioritize digital marketing, customer experience, and reliable delivery systems are expected to achieve long-term success in the evolving retail industry.

Homeowners Insurance: What Your Policy May Not Cover

Homeowners insurance protects one of your biggest investments, but many people do not fully understand what their policy covers. They only find out after damage happens, and by then it may be too late.

A standard homeowners insurance policy may cover damage from fire, wind, theft, vandalism, certain water damage, and liability claims. It may also help pay for temporary housing if your home becomes unlivable after a covered event.

However, there are important exclusions. Many standard policies do not cover flood damage. If you live in an area with flood risk, you may need separate flood insurance.

Earthquake damage is also usually excluded unless you buy additional coverage. Sewer backups, mold, termite damage, wear and tear, and maintenance problems may also be limited or excluded.

Another important issue is replacement cost versus actual cash value. Replacement cost coverage may pay to replace damaged property with new items. Actual cash value coverage subtracts depreciation, which can result in a lower payout.

Your policy limits matter. If your home has increased in value or construction costs have gone up, your old coverage may not be enough to rebuild. You should review your policy regularly to make sure the dwelling coverage is accurate.

Personal property coverage also has limits. Expensive jewelry, electronics, art, firearms, or collectibles may require additional coverage.

Liability protection is another important part of homeowners insurance. If someone is injured on your property, liability coverage may help pay legal costs or damages.

To avoid surprises, review your declarations page, exclusions, deductibles, and coverage limits. Ask your insurance agent what is not covered and whether you need additional protection.

Homeowners insurance is not just a bill. It is financial protection for your house, belongings, and future. Understanding your policy before disaster strikes can save you from major financial stress.
