81 people reportedly escaped from the Beitbridge Quarantine, Isolation and Transit centre last week under unclear circumstances. Among them 29 were Covid-19 positive. The group included 71 Malawian border jumpers who were arrested by the police last week while en-route to South Africa. Ten other members of the group were Zimbabweans who had just been deported for violating South African immigration laws. Armed robbers opened fire in Bulawayo’s city centre, Saturday, minutes after robbing a suspected illegal foreign currency dealer of an undisclosed amount of cash stashed in a bag. Five villagers from Lower Gweru under Chief Sogwala have died of Covid-19 in a space of a week after attending a funeral service for a relative who had succumbed to the virus. According to the local leadership, several other villagers, most of them relatives who were at the burial ceremony last week, contracted the virus. THE British government is deporting around 50 Zimbabweans who have been released from detention after serving jail terms for various offences. This comes as the Second Republic agreed with the United Kingdom in June that Zimbabweans, some of whom have been in the European country on false pretences, can safely return home. Those affected are involuntary returnees who have exhausted the administrative and legal procedures and have lost the legal right to remain in that country.
