INFIGHTING in the opposition MDC party is escalating as the Thokozani Khupe-led faction — buoyed by a recent Supreme Court ruling ordering the party to revert to 2014 MDC-T structures — prepares to re-organise the party after the government-imposed lockdown, from grassroots level up, in preparation for an extraordinary congress. ANDREW KUNAMBURA/NYASHA CHINGONO This is despite stiff resistance from the camp led by the firebrand Nelson Chamisa, which has declared the court ruling a nullity. A fortnight ago, the Supreme Court ruled that the MDC should revert to its 2014 structures, adding that C
Hundreds of Zimbabweans living in Botswana are applying for a trip home, saying the COVID-19 crisis has left them on the edge of starvation. The immigrants usually survive by doing odd jobs, but with Botswana in a lockdown due the coronavirus, they cannot find work to support themselves. Additionally, the immigrants were initially excluded from the Botswana government's food parcels. Turbulence continues to rock the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T after a top member of the party declared that he was in charge and was seized with organising the party’s extra-ordinary congress as recently ordered by the Supreme Court. This effectively locked out Douglas Mwonzora, who had declared himself party secretary-general.Two week ago, the Supreme Court made Khupe the acting MDC-T president, saying all appointments made by the late MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai, including the elevation of Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as vice-presidents of the party, were unconstitutional.
